The Ole Ball Game

if a pitcher change is made during a batter's count such as 3 and 0, does the new pitcher continue with this count or does the batter start with a new count?

George asked: Whether a batter gets a new count after a pitcher change during his existing count?

Does an injury during a batter's count such as 3 and 0 mean that the new batter gets a fresh start or does he pick up the 3 and 0 count?

Rick answered: George, thank you for your question.

Replacement batter assumes the count at the time. If the count was 0-2, and the batter struck out,it would be credited to the original batter.

Everything else would go on the new batters record.

Rick
