How many stolen bases?
by Hogan
Hogan asked: This question comes from my own experience.
I would like to keep track of my stats as accurately as possible this season, but I cannot find an answer to this question anywhere.
Here is the situation. A runner on first steals second; the catcher's throw is wild and the ball rolls into center field.
Then, the runner advances to third because of the bad throw from the catcher.
My question is, does this count as two stolen bases or just one?
Thank you for any feedback.
Rick answered: Hogan, thank you for your question.
As described, that play would be scored as a stolen base, on the steal of second.
Catcher gets an error on the throw, as it allowed the runner to get to third. Would show in the book as an e-2.
Yours in baseball,
Rick
