The Ole Ball Game

How many game are we ahead in standings

Anonymous asked: Our team has 11 wins and 3 losses. Another team has 9 wins and 4 losses because of a tie. (no extra innings in our league)
I say we have a 1-1/2 game lead. Others say 2-1/2 game lead.
Who is correct?

Rick answered: Thank you for your question.

The formula below is used to compute Games Behind in a schedule, for sports not allowing ties. You are still able to use this formula, as a tie in this situation just cancels itself out.

Games Behind = (Team A's wins - Team B's wins) + (Team B's losses - Team A's losses)

That total divided by 2.

In your situation, at that point, you have a 1.5 game lead.

Rick
