Hit or Fielders choice

Jamie asked: Tie game going into bottom of Ninth inning.

Runner on third with one out, batter hits to short stop, fields it , runner scores and batter gets to first no throw. Game over.

Is this a hit or fielders choice?

Situations such as this end up in the hands of the official scorer to make a decision.

Since this was a game ending play, as a scorer I would give the hitter a base hit with an rbi, as the defense made no attempt to turn two, or get an out anywhere.

Sounds like maybe the infield was positioned incorrectly, or that the ball was hit so slow, the SS had no play any where.
