Jeremy asked: My friend gave me a Pete Rose ball that says "to pat at 4,160 hits best wishes Pete Rose".

I was wondering if you could tell me what year, who the game was against, and if he scored.

I have tried looking it up but I couldn't find anything. Thank you guys for your time!

Rick answered: Jeremy, thank you for your question.

I was not able to locate much.

According to my sources, Baseball Reference and Baseball Almanac Pete Rose had 4, 169 hits in 1984, when he left Montreal for Cincinnati.

He must have picked up 4,160 while in Montreal.

If you were to contact MLB, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Since the Expos' no longer exist, I don't know who, outside of MLB, would have all their records.

Baseball is a world of statistics, someone must have the additional information you are seeking.

On April 13, 1984 Rose got number 4000.

He was traded to the Reds on August 15, 1984 and became their player/manager through the rest of that season.

On Sept 11, 1985 he got number 4192, which broke Cobb's record. His final total of 4256 still stands at number 1.

Should he become reinstated, which has come up some lately, and you could validate the ball you have, could turn out to be a great gift.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

Yours in baseball,

Rick
