The Ole Ball Game

Brock Holt

Matt asked: Can you tell me the last MLB player selected to the All Star Game who has played every position except pitcher and catcher?

Has there been one in the last 100 years?
DIE HARD SOX FAN!!!!!

Rick answered: Matt, thank you for your question.

B.J. Surhoff was selected to the American League All Star team in 1999, participated in the Home Run Derby as well.

He had an 18 year career:

Brewers 1987-95

Orioles 1996-2000

Braves 2000-2002

Orioles 2003-2005

Over the span of those 18 years, Surhoff played every position except pitcher. He was, at the start of his career, a catcher.

He is from Rye, New York, where he played his high school baseball.

Yours in baseball,

Rick
