The Ole Ball Game

Bases loaded bottom of the 9th with 1 run lead: where should the outfield play?

Anonymous asked: Bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th inning with 1 run lead, high school baseball.

Where should the outfielders be positioned?

Rick answered: Thank you for your question.

In that situation I would have my outfield at an average depth, no matter how many outs there are.

You can't afford to have a ball hit over the outfielders head, as the game will be over.

If it is hit in front of him, he has a shot at throwing him out; but is still able to keep the winning run from scoring.

You still need to be at that depth with 2 outs, where you can get back or in if needed.

Yours in baseball,

Rick
