Jake asked: Which is the most common type of out - strike out, fly out, or ground out?



Rick answered: Jake, thank you for your question.

I believe ground ball outs are the most common, followed by fly outs and then strikeouts.

Pitchers work hard to keep the ball down and create ground balls, rather than letting hitters get the ball in the air, where there is a possibility of it leaving the yard.

Don't know if there is a stat kept anywhere for that. Possibly, if you go to my resource page, you will find a link to a site called Baseball Reference. It is a very good statistics site for Baseball.

Types Of Outs

Statistics on types of outs are kept for pitchers. Often baseball announcers will comment about the pitcher's records and percentages of ground ball outs to fly outs and of course strikeouts.
