The Ole Ball Game

Thirdbase

Arrenado Pre-Set

Arrenado Pre-Set

Anonymous asked: As a 3rd basemen, do you watch the ball as the pitcher is throwing it to home plate, or do you keep your eyes on the hitter?

Rick answered: Thank you for your question.

You catch the pitcher start his motion to the plate, out of your peripheral vision.

Main focus is the plate and hitter. You need to see if the hitter is attempting to bunt, as well as see him start his swing.

All this is accomplished with a pre-set step, so that you are moving forward as the ball gets to the plate.

In the image above, Nolan Arrenado is completing his pre-set. You can see his vision is focused on the plate and hitter.

Yours in baseball,

Rick
