The Ole Ball Game

score-keeping question

by dave
(pismo beach, ca)

Dave asked:
Lead off batter grounds to shortstop. Ball is thrown over first baseman's head.

Catcher is backing up throw, he picks up ball and throws ball to first baseman who tags runner.

Umpire calls him out for making a move to round the base.

Rick answered: Dave, thank you for your question.

Sounds like this one may have gotten interesting.

In the book, E-6-2-3.

Shortstop draws an error as the hitter reached first base, so you have to acknowledge that in the box.

Catcher to first base, assist to catcher, putout to 1B.

Really great fundamentals on the part of the defense. Couldn't ask for better!

Yours in baseball,

Rick
