Jackie Robinson and Yogi Berra Back In The Day

Anonymous asked: Man on first, no outs, batter strikes out and catcher drops the ball.

Does the batter run to first?

Rick answered: Thank you for your question.

In the situation you describe, the batter is not eligible to run to first base, as there are less than 2 outs, and first base is occupied.

With less than two outs, the catcher drops a third strike call, and there is no runner at first base, the batter can run.

The batter can also run with two outs, and first base occupied or not.

Yours in baseball,

Rick
