Strike Or Hit By Pitch?

Strike Or Hit By Pitch?

Jeff asked: The batter was swinging at a pitch, but was hit by the pitch.

How would you score this. As a strike or hit by pitch.

Rick answered: Jeff, thank you for your question.

If the batter was swinging at the pitch, and the pitch hits him, it is a strike.

Only a hit by pitch, if he doesn't swing.

Yours in baseball,

Rick
