bases loaded with no outs. batter flies out to left, runner on second tags and starts towards 3rd. runner on third stays put so runner on second has to go back. it it a force or is a tag needed?

Rick answered: Pete, thank you for your question.

Base runners only need to tag up, if they wish to advance on a caught fly ball, pop fly or line drive.

Going back to the bag they have already reached safely would require the defense to tag them out.
