The Ole Ball Game

tag of base

A Visitor Asked:
Can a player tag the base with his hand while the ball is in his glove?

Rick Answered: A player can tag a base with his hand while the ball is in his glove, if it is a forceout situation.

It works the same as stepping on the base to record the put out.

If it is a non forceout and the runner has to be tagged, the ball has to be a part of the tag out.

It could be a force out, but the fielder attempts to tag the runner before he reaches the base, the ball would have to be a part of that tag also.
